Villa Aurora – Home and Hub for artists

Villa Aurora, a private residence in Pacific Palisades, CA was once the home of German-Jewish author Lion Feuchtwanger and his wife Marta. This iconic Spanish-style mansion became a hub for artists and émigrés in the 1940s.

Today, it stands as an artists’ residence, welcoming German-based writers, visual artists, and filmmakers. Since 1995, Villa Aurora has fostered cultural exchange, supporting artists facing persecution in their home countries through the Feuchtwanger Fellowship. A tribute to German exile culture, this historic site continues to inspire creativity and dialogue.

Villa Aurora recently hosted a tribute to Austrian American composer and painter Arnold Schoenberg, with a performance by actress Sunnyi Melles and a special appearance by Schoelberg’s grandson – lawyer and philanthropist Randy Schoenberg.
