There is still progress to be made in the C-suite, but as of 2022, the majority of CMOs [51%] are female. This is up from 23% in 2016. So what does this mean?

Women say they are better prepared to take risks and are more likely to see opportunities than men. They are also less prone to overconfidence. One key to female leadership strengths is a higher level of empathy. Not emotional empathy, where women feel others’ emotions, and might feel sad with them. But, rather cognitive empathy in which one can imagine what it might be like to be that person in their situation. An empathy that gives women a better understanding of another person’s experience.

Not all women have high levels of cognitive empathy, and not all men lack it. But, it makes a pretty compelling case for the importance of diversity.

A diverse workforce isn’t just about gender fairness, it’s about maximizing skill sets.
